The importance of verification

Pedigree Lines is the largest user driven, approval based, worldwide Sheltie database online. When it was originally launched, many entries were missed as far as verifying the information entered so we are all working double time to make sure all errors are corrected as quickly as possible. It has been a tremendous effort, but we consider accuracy is paramount. If an error is detected, please contact us so that it can be corrected.

For each and every one of us entering dogs into the Sheltie Pedigree Lines database a strict policy for verifying the information is upheld. Although some National Kennel Clubs are not as open to offer information, the American Kennel Club does have a lookup engine to confirm spelling and titles earned by dogs. This option allows us to verify a specific dog; however it does not allow us to see the parents. Robert Miller’s Pedigree Books are another excellent source of reference to verify a dog and its parents and to put together accurate pedigrees. His books are a must to everyone working on this site. Members of other National Clubs around the world have also been a great help to confirm the accuracy of entries. If the information cannot be obtained by any other source we do require that a scanned copy of the registration certificate or an official pedigree be emailed to us so that the information can be verified. Our only hope is that all that love our breed will understand the importance of accurate record keeping.

Health results have been removed from past and future entries as their verification is beyond the scope of this database. We continue to improve our services through peridioc technical upgrades, prevention and removal of duplicates and personal, expedited customer service to our users.

Thanks also to Holly Neel for her help with duplicates and for the many Sheltie lovers worldwide who have embraced this idea and made it a reality. If we have not responded to your email requesting dog transfers, etc please re-send, the response has been overwhelming at times and we are nowhere caught up yet.

Tips for entering dogs' names

Please enter dogs as suggested below so they will be approved faster and pedigrees look more uniform:

- Use upper case only for the first letter of each word, otherwise dogs' names are too long on pedigrees.

- Enter Ch without a period after it or capital H.

- Enter any titles without a period or comma before or after them. Example: Dog's Name CD CGC ROM

- Make sure the spelling is correct. Please check AKC registered dogs here: http://www.akc.org/store/reports/dog/search/dog_search.cfm?button=search_name

- Enter Ch only for American Ch dogs. Example: if Canadian Champion use: Can Ch if Australian Champion use: Aus Ch etc.

When uploading a photo please make sure that you own it or have permission from owner or publisher. Copyrights apply for photos whether they are marked or not, it's not OK to just "lift" photos off websites, thanks.
