Am/Can Ch Dury Voe Wintergreen ROM
[current stats show that he lacks one Can Ch for his ROMC]
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to relay the story of
Am/Can Ch Dury Voe Wintergreen ROM, “Verde”.

Verde joins granddad, Am/Can Ch Dury Voe Zydeco ROM, ROMC as the 2nd DV sire to achieve 10+ U.S. Champions (Deco has 12, Verde has 13) in a very small breeding program that rarely had 2 or 3 litters per year; now averaging zero to two litters per year. Point of significance is that when Verde’s tenth US Champion finished, he had only a total of 82 puppies on the ground; making 1 in 8.2 puppies a champion! The first ten were from a total of five breedings; one litter containing five Champions; another litter containing two; and none of the twelve Verde-sired Champions were finished by us. One can only wonder what his record would be if he had been with someone that was in a position to buy up his best kids and finish them, or if he had been with a larger, more “accessible” kennel “name.”

Verde was born on May 18, 1999, to parents that cross-faulted fabulously. His sire was Am/Can Ch Dury Voe Winterlude, who was Ch Toven Wintertide’s first Canadian Champion, and I think 2nd American Champion. Winterlude was a gorgeous, “stallion-esque” dog with amazing arch and length of neck, lovely body balance, movement, glorious color; all topped off with perfect ears and pretty feet. “Looie” finished in both countries despite himself, as he never really wanted to be a showdog. He had his favorite people to whom he would “smile”, turning one ear backwards and inside out. Looie was my husband’s best bud. But his legacy was carried on thru his son, Wintergreen.

Verde’s dam was Dury Voe Rhonda Rhonda ROMC, a cute little 14” moderate daughter of our first ROM/ROMC sire, Am/Can Ch Dury Voe Zydeco ROM ROMC. Rhonda was a little doll, with head detail galore, lovely side gait, fabulous temperament, and a great mother. Rhonda turned out to be our best producer, having been the dam of Wintergreen, Am/Can Ch DV America America, Am/Can Ch DV Encore Encore, and Am/Can Ch DV Scottsdale. Litter sisters to Encore and Scottsdale should finish, one of them hopefully making Rhonda a ROM, to add to her ROMC title.

Verde was the “middle” puppy in a litter of six, and to me, was a standout even though he wasn’t the largest or the smallest in the litter. He always had a lovely carriage, glorious color, four-square stance, with clean, true coming and going and stretchy side-gait when he felt like it. I still treasure his moderate, lean headpiece with perfect planes, lovely muzzle, no holes under the eyes, perfect stop, and sweet eyes. I think the fact that he, like Zydeco, was so moderate that he would compliment most bitches that needed moderation and size control in their litters.

I have to thank the breeders and owners of Verde’s kids that have not only attained Championships, but that have garnered big wins in the performance departments. He has one child that attained her VCX, and just recently, I received the news that his latest Champion is also his first winner of the new AKC Grand Champion title. Thank you all; without you, it never would have happened. And, most of all, thank you, Verde, my sweet little man.
