First Sheltie to win Best Dog overall at a Championship Show (1951). "Roddie" won 11 Challenge Certificates, a record at the time. He sired 10 Champions. He gained his title at Crufts in 1950 where he was amongst the last six for Best in Show.
He appeared on stage in a production of the pantomime Jack and Jill at the Tivoli Theatre, Aberdeen. He was also in demand to appear with models in fashion shows.
His sire Bhan got out by a mistake and mated his dam, Helensdale Gentle Lady. The result was only one puppy in this litter - Helensdale Lone Star - who later was renamed Helensdale Ace. Ace was glamour personified. He was the colour of his dam's sire, Ch Nicky of Aberlour. Miss Felicity Rogers (Riverhill) writes in her book: "You could pick Ace to pieces as he was full of faults but he'd still come back at you and knock you for six. His personality and glamour were so terrific you couldn't see anything else while he was in the ring. At his first show, when he was only just six months, he won the puppy class. His sire won open but it was Ace who got the CC and his dad had to be content with the resCC."
